Just for Parents
As
parents of dyslexic children, we have shared many of the same
frustrations in trying to understand their problems and in getting
them the help needed to succeed in school. The following is how our
journey began.
The teacher greeted me, and we discussed the move and Jamie's new
school. As we were leaving her room, the teacher suggested that
Jamie
might benefit repeating the second grade at her new school.
Her reason was that Jamie had been working so slowly. No one
at her new school would know that she was repeating a grade.
Having experience in special education and knowing how to assist
Jamie with her homework helped, but not in the classroom. Not now. I
knew that a solution was needed, but what? More testing was
suggested. However, I had the feeling that the teacher and principal
did not understand this any better than I did. Now I am positive of
that fact. I believe the same would be the case in most schools
today and, as unbelievable as it sounds, on all levels.
I am grateful that I was able to develop Drive Reading Rules
reading method to help my daughter. I believe any parent can teach
their dyslexic child to read, given the right tools. |
