Breaking the Cycle
Dyslexia has been passed from one generation to the next for years.
It was first described over a hundred years ago. I don't believe science
is close to understanding, much less solving this problem.
Researchers think it may be a gene defect, or it could be caused by
damage to nerve cells before birth. The blame has been placed on
defective coordination, affecting the eyes' ability to track properly.
Or maybe it is a subtle hearing loss. Then again, we have learned that
the dyslexic uses a different area of the brain when reading.
It doesn't matter if one or all of the aforementioned reasons stated
are correct. The truth is that we may never know what actually causes
this problem. But a solution that addresses any possible result of
dyslexia is needed―and it's needed now.
Jamie tested four full grade levels higher in 1 year. That is the
real benefit of parent and teacher working together to help the dyslexic
student. Many of the students I have tutored have had similar results
when I worked with their teachers as I had with Jamie's. However, a
parent using the information in these book and applying it while helping
their child with his or her homework will produce great results.
Parents and teachers, working together, can bring hope and help to
these struggling students now. Must we wait a century for the
educational system to improve―to be all inclusive and to truly have
